Established in 1964 by Dr. Ronald Hartman, Lakewood Eye Physicians, Los Alamitos Eye Physicians and Long Beach Laser & Cosmetic Center served the communities of Orange and Los Angeles counties. As the practice grew, we were united under the name Southern California Eye Physicians & Associates, SoCal Eye.
SoCal Eye is one of the longest standing and most trusted ophthalmology groups in the nation. We provide a complete line of comprehensive eye care, including cataract and implant surgery, LASIK and refractive surgery, and treatment for glaucoma, macular degeneration, pterygium (surfer’s eye), and diabetes. We also offer facial cosmetic treatments and surgery.
Our renowned surgeons are teaching professors who are always informed about the latest advances in eye care. They participate as clinical research investigators for many leading-edge products and technologies, such as the newest generation of implantable lenses for cataract and refractive surgery.
SoCal Eye Physicians is one of the few private ophthalmology practices that operates its own surgery center. This allows us to offer a safe, convenient, high-quality alternative to inpatient hospitalization.
With state-of-the-art technology and monitoring, and board-certified anesthesiologists, the SoCal Eye surgery center is certified by Medicare and approved by most insurance. Our skilled staff is known for its expertise and for providing service in a friendly, caring environment. A personal Registered Nurse is assigned to each patient and remains dedicated to him/her throughout the entire procedure.

Our highly-trained and experienced staff is here first and foremost for you. At SoCal Eye, we have a proud history of friendly service and low employee turnover. In fact, a number of staff members boast membership in our “20-Year Club,” having been with our practice for over two decades!
We constantly strive to provide top-quality eye care that is personal, honest, cost-conscious, and accessible. Many of us in the SoCal Eye “family” are also bilingual.
SoCal Eye Clinical Research Center conducts clinical trials and market research on surgical products and techniques that impact ophthalmology. Our clinical trial experience has encompassed many implant, drug, and device companies. As a result, SoCal Eye patients often have the benefit of being first to hear about and receive new products, technologies, and techniques. Funding for these studies comes from research foundations, as well as corporate and government sponsors.
The staff of SoCal Eye Clinical Research Center consists of physicians, study coordinators, recruiting staff, regulatory staff, and marketing and administrative support personnel. As a patient of SoCal Eye, you may be offered the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial. The trials are extremely diverse and participation is completely voluntary.
Optometry & Co-Management
SoCal Eye is proud to work with one of the largest networks of optometrists in California to ensure top-quality care for our patients. We appreciate that many people who come to us have an excellent history with the optometrist who referred them. At SoCal Eye, we help you maintain that patient-physician relationship.
What Is Co-Management?
Co-management is the partnering of a patient’s doctors and other care providers with the goal of delivering optimum preoperative and postoperative care. A co-management relationship is usually convenient and cost-effective for patients. Co-management ensures continuity of care, as local optometrists are typically a patient’s primary eye care doctor. Patients often have a long-standing, well-established relationship with their optometrist before being referred to SoCal Eye for consultation. Our co-management approach allows your regular optometrist to efficiently monitor and manage any changes in your condition. Should you require further consultation, you can always be referred back to SoCal Eye for more treatment.
