RONALD H. HARTMAN, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Ronald Hartman founded SoCal Eye in 1964, known at that time as Lakewood Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He is a full clinical professor at the University of California, Irvine and considered one of the most experienced ophthalmologists practicing today in the United States. Dr. Hartman has enjoyed practicing in Lakewood for over 40 years. His many honors and leadership positions include: Founder of Doctor’s Hospital of Lakewood, Chairman of the Governing Board and Chief of Staff at Lakewood Regional Medical Center, Chief of Ophthalmology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and admissions interviewer for Cornell University.
LARRY A. PASQUALI, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Pasquali joined Dr. Ronald Hartman in 1978. He is currently the Chairman of the Governing Board of our surgery center and has primary responsibility for the oversight of SoCal Eye’s policies and procedures. A full clinical professor at the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Pasquali specializes in anterior segment and small incision surgery. As a graduate of M.I.T and U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, Dr. Pasquali is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons. An accomplished teacher, he has served as a Clinical Instructor and Instructor of Ophthalmic Surgery at University of California, Irvine as well as Veterans Hospital, Long Beach. Dr. Pasquali received an Award of Recognition for his 30 years of service to our nation’s veterans.
CARL T. HARTMAN, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Carl Hartman, also known as “Dr. Carl,” has been actively performing refractive surgery since joining his father’s practice in 1990. He is Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a full Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine, and a clinical instructor for the residents at UCLA. His extensive surgery credentials include certification in all of the latest refractive techniques and cataract and implant techniques. Dr. Carl also performs and teaches the latest clear corneal sutureless cataract and refractive surgeries, as well as corneal transplantation.
TRINH T. NHU, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Nhu joined SoCal Eye in 1997 and played a key role in the opening of the Los Alamitos office. Today, Dr. Nhu practices in SoCal Eye’s Lakewood and Los Alamitos locations. She is a highly-respected surgeon and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of California, Irvine. Dr. Nhu is Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She specializes in disease and surgery of the anterior segment, including the latest multifocal implants. In addition to cataract, glaucoma, and pterygium surgeries, Dr. Nhu has a special interest in oculoplastic surgery (e.g., cosmetic procedures of the eyelid), as well as removal and reconstruction following excision of malignancies and other lesions.
EMMA L. CLAY, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Clay was educated at UCLA Medical Center‘s prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute. Having completed her Ophthalmology training after graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Clay was awarded numerous honors, including the Paul Kayser International Scholar Award, the Jules Stein Alumni Association Resident Research Grant, and the Carroll R. Mullen Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology. Dr. Clay is Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition to general ophthalmology, Dr. Clay specializes in facial cosmetics, refractive surgery, cataracts, and uveitis. Her cosmetic practice offers facial rejuvenation procedures, including fillers (e.g., BOTOX, Restylane, and Juvederm) and skin resurfacing.
THEODORE PASQUALI, M.D., F.A.C.S.
As the newest member of the SoCal Eye team, Dr. Ted A. Pasquali is devoted to providing excellent and personalized patient care in all areas of ophthalmology. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, Dr. Pasquali completed his internship in medicine at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, his residency in ophthalmology at Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, and a fellowship in refractive surgery at Durrie Vision in Overland Park, Kansas. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. He enjoys participating in research and has published papers in the Journal of Refractive Surgery and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
