Allison Jarstad D.O.

Allison Jarstad is excited to bring her enthusiasm and passion for quality patient care as well as her endless energy to the SoCal Eye team. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mathematics where she was awarded as a Scholar Athlete, and then received her medical degree in 2013 from Pacific Northwest University, where she was honored as Student Doctor of the Year and was a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi Honors Society. Allison then completed her ophthalmology training at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, followed by a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the University of California, Irvine where she was trained in LASIK, PRK, cornea transplant surgery, iris repair, intraocular lens exchange, secondary lens implantation, and femtosecond laser cataract surgery. She also specializes in diseases of the cornea and anterior segment and is a dry eye specialist.

Dr. Jarstad has always had a passion for international outreach work and after completing her surgical training, she then went to Stanford University where she was Clinical Faculty and completed a second fellowship in Global Ophthalmology, spending the majority of her time teaching ophthalmology and cornea transplant surgery in Africa and Asia, while volunteering with CureBlindness.org (formerly known as the Himalayan Cataract Project). Throughout her training and her career, she has volunteered in Guatemala, Haiti, Ecuador, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ghana, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Allison has a particular passion for teaching, whether it is educating her patients on their eye health, teaching the staff members of her team here at SoCal Eye, or volunteering to teach ophthalmology residents and fellows at academic training centers in the USA and throughout the world.

In her spare time, she enjoys running, skiing, water sports, mountaineering (she has summited Mt. Adams, Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro), taking barre and yoga classes at local studios, and spending time with her loved ones.
